Chearsley Show
A reminder that the annual village Show will be held on Saturday September 1 in the village hall. Information including entry forms have been circulated round the village. If you have lost yours or not received one, please let me know. The show is a light-hearted event, with a little bit of competition as to whose entry is awarded first, second or third place, and a chance to come together to view the exhibits, whether or not you decide to enter. It is a very family orientated occasion with more and more children entering each year in the children’s classes. There is a lot of behind the scenes organizing, so please consider entering, to make it all the more worthwhile for all the effort put in. The deadline for submitting entries is Tuesday August 28.

Pilates
Weekly evening classes in Chearsley village hall have been running very successfully for several years. There are a few places available when they re-start in September. Please contact Debbie for more information on 01844 208420

Parish Council Meeting
There will be no meeting in August. The next meeting will be on September 17 at 7.30pm in the village hall, when all villagers are welcome to attend.

Advice on Bogus Doorstep Traders

A community message from  AVDC

Bogus doorstep traders employ a range of sales tactics to persuade people to buy.

These are six of the most common high pressure selling techniques which homeowners should look out for:
  • Sales tactic 1 – You’re made to feel grateful.
The friendly salesperson turns up on your doorstep with a gift, maybe a plant or chocolates, and it might seem rude not to invite the salesperson in.
  • Sales tactic 2 – You’re made to feel as if you have lots in common.
The trader picks up on things you have in your home, such as photos of your family or hobbies, and pretends they are keen on the same things to gain your trust.
  • Sales tactic 3 – You’re made to feel as if there is a great sense of urgency.
The salesperson says they’ve got a special discount for you, may pretend to check with their boss, then say that if you don’t order now you’ll miss out. You’re pushed into making up your mind and signing a contract on the spot without any time to reflect.
  • Sales tactic 4 – You’re made to feel committed to the service – and that you’ll lose face if you don’t buy.
The trader gets you to agree to harmless statements about how a service would make your life easier. By answering ‘yes’, you are starting to say ‘yes’ to the sale without realising it, and may feel too embarrassed not to buy when you’ve implied that you will.
  • Sales tactic 5 – You’re made to feel that you will be just as happy as all the other contented consumers.
The salesperson talks of lots of people like you who have bought the product, and you feel reassured that you’re getting a good deal.
  • Sales tactic 6 – You’re made to feel as if the service is endorsed by an expert.
The trader will emphasise that the service has been thoroughly tested and is approved by a professional association, charity, celebrity or council, so you feel reassured by a credible endorsement.

By registering your demand for superfast broadband which is free and only takes a few minutes, you will be helping Bucks County Council and Buckinghamshire Business First demonstrate to broadband providers that there is a strong demand for superfast connectivity here. Changes to Refuse and recycling services starting in September
We have all received letters concerning forthcoming changes to collection of our bins and recycling. During the next few weeks we should receive the new bins, but it must be emphasized that these should not be used until the new system begins in September. Our first new collection day will be Friday September 7 when the new food waste bin and refuse bin will be collected. The following Friday, the new bin with a blue lid for all recycling materials will be collected. We will be given an information leaflet to explain the new recycling system and how to use the bins and a calendar to remind us.

Want Superfast Broadband?

If your current broadband speed doesn't meet your needs you can do something about it today by visiting www.superfastforbucks.org and backing your local county council's campaign to bring superfast broadband to Buckinghamshire.

These days it’s not uncommon for households to have more than one way of accessing the internet – be it through a computer, tablet, smartphone or games console. But standard broadband cannot always cope with the requirements placed on it by modern families, who like to use the internet to do a variety of things – from watching catch up TV, streaming films, uploading photos, or enjoying online gaming.

With superfast broadband, multiple devices can be online at any one time and still enjoy high speed connectivity.

Unfortunately from town to town and even street to street, internet connection speeds vary significantly across Buckinghamshire. Buckinghamshire County Council and Buckinghamshire Business First have secured government funding to improve access in areas which currently have no broadband access or suffer very slow speeds.

Registering your demand for superfast broadband will only take a couple of minutes and won’t cost a penny. You’re simply helping Buckinghamshire County Council and Buckinghamshire Business First demonstrate to broadband providers that there is a strong demand for superfast connectivity here in the county. If you are unable to register online please call 0845 3708090 / 01296 395000.

Register by 1 September 2012 and you will be entered into a free prize draw for a chance to win an iPad kindly donated by Buckinghamshire Business First.

More information, including answers to frequently asked questions, is available on www.superfastforbucks.org. Details about which areas will benefit from our government funding and when improved broadband access will be rolled out in Buckinghamshire will be published on the website as soon as we know, so please check the website for updates

New bins: changes to AVDC's refuse and recycling services

From September, AVDC will be collecting your refuse and recycling in a different way. Residents will receive their new recycling bins and an information pack during July and August.

** PLEASE DO NOT USE YOUR NEW BINS UNTIL SEPTEMBER **

What will the new collection system be like? AVDC will be collecting more items for recycling so you'll get a new recycling bin, food waste bins and the collection dates may change.

Recycling bin - Households will receive a large 240-litre recycling wheeled bin (with a blue hinged lid). You will use this for all paper, glass, cardboard, plastics, cartons, cans and tins, mixed together so you won’t have to separate them.

Recycling collections will continue to be made every fortnight.

Food waste bins -  Households will receive two food waste bins; a small silver kitchen caddy and a small outdoor green food waste bin, both with tightly fitting lids. You use the kitchen caddy for food scraps and when full, place in the green outdoor food bin.

The green food waste bin will be collected weekly.

Refuse bin - the rest of your waste, everything that is not recyclable, goes in your existing green wheeled bin. This will be collected fortnightly on alternate weeks with the new recycling bin.

Note - When AVDC start the new collections, they will only be be able to collect rubbish that fits in the bin, with the bin lid closed. They will no longer collect extra bags of rubbish left next to the bin, please take to the tip instead.

Finally, householders should look out for a new letter from AVDC in mid August, with any updates on the new service and what to do with your old baskets/boxes.

All information about the new service including a FAQ’s page, can be found at www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/newbins
