Congratulations to all our senior cricketers.
With a comprehensive victory over Leighton Buzzard last Saturday, Chearsley Cricket Club 1st X1 have put themselves in a strong position to win the Cherwell League Division 4 championship.
We currently sit eighteen points ahead of nearest rivals (Shipton) with one game to play, needing just eight points to secure top position and promotion to Division 3 next season.
Their final league fixture takes place away next Saturday afternoon 3rd September) at Buckingham – 1 o’clock start.

A number of CCC Vice Presidents will be travelling up to Buckingham during the afternoon, leaving The Bell at around 2.30, at the conclusion of their VP luncheon. If sufficient numbers are interested, we’ll sort out a minibus. If you are interested, email or call me on 07970 651326.
I think all the players would agree that the 2nd XI season has been a bit of a ‘curate’s egg’. The lads are currently placed 7th in Division 7 but, happily, well clear of the ‘drop zone’. So, all in all, a decent show in their first season in a higher division – but room for improvement next year.
Their final league fixture also takes place next Saturday at home against Kingston Bagpuize.
So, fingers crossed for next Saturday.....

I am seeking players to once again take on the lucky winners of Cuddington from our previous encounter and ensure that we restore glory & pride to the good name of Chearsley when it comes to this ancient and pleasurable game.
I am also looking for volunteers to provide sandwiches, cheeses, sausage rolls, pork pies, cakes, etc, as it was well provided at our last game by the good folks of Cuddington.
There will be an open bar at the playing fields clubhouse and I am looking for a full team including those youngsters who did such a great job at both taking part in the game as well as keeping the playing surfaces in such good condition.

Pilates in Chearsley
Classes with Debbie restart at the beginning of September in Chearsley Village Hall. Debbie, who lives in Chearsley, has been teaching Pilates for 9 years in a Pilates studio teaching group classes. New members are welcome – come and see whether Pilates is for you, suitable for men and women of all ages. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the village hall. Please ring Debbie on 01844 201295 for more information and to book your place.
Bingo at The Bell
This will restart after the Summer break on Tuesday, September 6th. Prizes for lines and full house and a bumper prize for the last game. Come and meet friends and have fun. The Bell offers meals at a special price of £6.99 for Bingo players only. Booking is advised for this. Eyes Down at about 8pm.

Members of Chearsley Cricket Club have been playing in an Aunt Sally League since May and are currently in second place. They have also reached the Cup Final which takes place on Friday 16th at The Black Bull, Launton. Adam Lazaruk, the captain and his team would very much appreciate your support. The team they are playing in the final is The Shakespeare who play in a division above Chearsley. Well done for getting this far and good luck to the Aunt Sally players.
This season, the Cricket XI Team are on the brink of promotion, and hope to win Division 4 of the Cherwell League. The Seconds are hoping not to be relegated.

Chilli Festival at Waddesdon
The Plant Centre at Waddesdon is holding another of its very successful Chilli Festivals on Saturday 3rd September and Sunday 4th from 10 to 4pm. There will be over 30 stalls with plants, seeds, chutneys, jams, marinades, sauces, pickles, beers and even homemade chilli ice cream. So if you love chilli, and maybe have grown some this year and want ideas on how to use them or get advice on how to keep them, Waddesdon is the place to go. Admission is free, but normal admission charges apply to the Manor itself.

Thank you to everyone who has been in touch since the birth of our grandson, Jamie Leo with their good wishes which we have passed on to Jenny and Joe. Fear not, I do not intend to give a weekly bulletin on his progress - just be warned if you stop to talk to me in the village as I now carry a photo album in my handbag!
Chearsley Show – deadline for entries
A last reminder that all entries must be in by Tuesday 30th August. So please return your forms to Rosemary Wallis at Merrifield, Dark Lane, or to Joy Payne at 1 Bernard's Close, or to Anne Lewis at Orchard House, Bottom Orchard, Church Lane, together with the fee of 20p per entry. Numbers of competitors have been increasing each year, so please try to put in as many entries as possible, to continue this trend.
Pub Lunch Wednesday 31st August
This will be held at The Bell on 31st August at 12.30pm. If you plan to come and have not let Ann Hooton know your menu choice, please get in touch with her by Sunday 28th August. If you have not yet joined this happy gathering of older Chearsley residents and friends which meets every month, perhaps you could be tempted by the menu. There is a choice of ham salad and chips; fish pie and vegetables or macaroni cheese and chips. Pudding is lemon tart, fruit crumble or ice cream. This is followed by tea or coffee for a good value price of £5.95. If you are considering giving it a try, please phone Ann on 208306.

There will be an Alzheimer’s Society mobile roadshow at Tesco, Broadfields on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th August which will be promoting awareness of Alzheimer's and providing information and support for those with questions and concerns. Community Message
This is a Community Message to all residents in Aylesbury Vale on Tuesday 16 August.
Over the last month there have been a number of burglaries to homes across Aylesbury Vale where offenders are using the unusual method of entry of jemmying the front door.
Offences are often occurring overnight on week days. Small items are being stolen including car keys. A number of higher value vehicles are then being stolen from the addresses. BMW’s and Audi’s have been targeted in particular.
Police are advising house holders to make sure their front doors are double locked and car keys hidden. Some of the homes targeted had PVC doors which were only single locked at the time of the offences.

Community and Emergency Services Day - Saturday Sept 10th
A FREE Community and Emergency Services Day is to be held at Waddesdon Manor on Saturday 10 September, starting at 10am.
This will be a fun packed family event, where you will be able to learn more about your emergency services, climb in a fire engine, have a closer look at a police car and examine an ambulance.
There will also be free admission to Waddesdon Manor – house and gardens, along with inflatable slides for the children and stalls and information from local charities.
Please come along and support this local event and pass this information on to any family, friends or neighbours who you think may be interested.

Ferret Race Night at Chearsley Cricket Club
Everyone is welcome to come ferret racing at the Cricket Club pavilion on Saturday September 17th, where there will be a bar serving real ales, bangers and mash and on course betting for all 6 races. Gates are open at 6.30 with the first race starting at 7.00pm. Entry is free. Children and families are welcome. It is with great pride and excitement that the news of the birth of Jamie Leo in Barcelona on August 8th to Jenny and Joe is announced. This makes Phil and myself first time grandparents. The joys of internet communication through Skype have enabled us to see Jamie sleeping peacefully and I have photos of him a few hours old to proudly display.
Baby congratulations also to Lizzie and Charlie, whose parents John and Maggie Cragg (now, old-hand grandparents) live in Shupps Lane, who recently had their second child, a son, Thomas.

Community Message
[Message in response to disorder in London]
Dear residents and businesses of the Aylesbury Vale,
I wish to send out a message to all of you regarding the disorder in London, and how locally we are responding to this. As a force and local area we are supporting the Metropolitan Police with public order teams, using wherever possible officers on rest days so this does not impact on the service we are providing you on a daily basis.
Thames Valley Police has taken action to address the concerns amongst the public and businesses within Aylesbury Vale and across the force regarding the ongoing disorder in London. There is understandable concern about any escalation in violence and we have ensured that locally there will be an increased high visibility policing presence, with additional resources deployed to provide reassurance to businesses and the community. This increased presence should not cause any concern as the intention is to provide reassurance. As a force we have ensured that there is an embargo on all annual leave and have dedicated specialist force resources available to support police areas should any further assistance be necessary across the Thames Valley.
As always, we rely on the support of the public to do our jobs effectively, we would ask the community to work with us and provide us with any information about groups gathering or any suspicious behaviour so that we can respond to any possible disorder quickly.
Thames Valley Police has placed crime prevention advice for businesses and the public on the force website at www.thamesvalley.police.uk
The advice encourages businesses to ensure staff report any suspicious activity to police, ensure regular checks of buildings and surrounding areas are conducted, remove loose objects that could be used as missiles, make sure all service doors are kept locked and secure when not in use, ensure CCTV systems are fully operational, consider removing high value goods from display windows overnight, keep as little cash as possible in the building overnight.
Landlords and residents should ensure that anyone living above commercial premises are aware of risks and ensure that all fire alarms, smoke alarm and fire escapes are fully functional. Petrol stations are being advised not to sell petrol in small containers. In the event of an emergency call 999.
