Village News

Successful Family Quiz - This quiz for all the family held on January 29 was a sell out to more than 106 adults and children, with not an inch of space for any more participants. This was the first Family Quiz to have been held in the hall and because of its overwhelming success, it is planned to make it an annual event. So, please make sure you book your tickets in plenty of time next year to avoid disappointment, as happened this year. The quiz, bar, supper of fish and chips and chocolate brownies and raffle all contributed to a fun evening for everyone and raised over £900 towards village hall funds.

Litter Pick and more - Wednesday March 4
Laura Heybrook, with her sister Rose, is having a litter pick to clear the village roads and lanes of rubbish before the grass starts to grow and hopefully be able to recycle much of the litter found. Everyone is welcome to join the litter pick and should meet at the shop at 9.45am wearing bright colours and bringing protective gloves. Laura will provide bags for the rubbish. All pickers are then invited back to The Cowshed for tea and cake and champagne and to celebrate Laura’s birthday. Sounds like a tempting invitation too good to miss.

Retirement of our Vicar

Before Christmas, our vicar, John Wynburne, who came in May 2009, announced that he would be retiring this Summer. Although he and his wife, Anna and family will not be leaving The Vicarage until the end of August, his last “official” Sunday will be July 19 when there will be a United Benefice Service at St Mary’s Long Crendon. The vicar will probably officiate at a few weddings booked at the end of July and August, but otherwise he will be off-duty for those closing weeks. Details of arrangements for departure and the Church of England process for appointing a successor will be announced in due course.

Lent House Group
Geoff Hogbin will be hosting a Lent Group on Wednesday evenings starting on February 25 until March 25. They will be held at Hazeldine, Church Lane from 8pm until 9.30pm. The material has been written by the vicar on the subject “Hymns of Faith and Love”. Everyone is welcome to come.

Devotional Service - A service of Choral Music, Readings and Hymns will be held on Palm Sunday, March 29 at St Mary’s Long Crendon at 6pm. Everyone is welcome to come to this when music by Byrd, Mozart, Bach and Walford-Davies will be featured.
