Dog Mess problems in Watts Green
An understandably very irate villager has complained about dog mess on the verge around the Watts Green area and is asking that all dog walkers appreciate the problems caused by dog mess and to make sure all dogs are kept on leads and that they clean up after their dog. Failure to clean up a dog’s faeces is an offence apart from the health hazard and unpleasantness it can cause.
Theatre in the Village – There will be another Theatre in the Village event in the village hall this year on Friday October 18 when Iestyn Edwards will be coming to entertain us with his musical revue – part panto dame, part clown, part stand up. A different type of entertainment to the past 2 years, great fun and highly reviewed. A production heard by Her Majesty the Queen, and played on Desert Island Discs, Midweek, Woman’s Hour and Loose Ends. So please put this date in your dairy. More details and tickets will be available in due course.
Annual Fruit and Vegetable Show - Rosemary Wallis who has been President and main organiser of the show for many years has decided to retire. She is to be thanked for her enthusiasm and time spent in keeping the show going. There is now a new President – Joy Payne and there are plans to update the schedule. This year the show will be held on Saturday September 7 in the village hall. It is another village event for everyone to take part in so please keep this date in mind and consider putting in as many entries as possible, whether in the craft, fruit, vegetables or flowers or cookery categories. There are also plenty of events for children to take part in. More details will be circulated nearer the time.
Fete – volunteers are still needed to help with the Fete which is on Saturday June 29. Anyone like to help run the coconut shy? All the equipment will be provided. Help with the teas is also needed. Mums and Dads to man the ever popular bouncy castle are also required. Everyone can help by looking out and donating books, cds, unwanted gifts, jewellery and accessories, bottles for the bottle tombola toys, plants etc. for the various stalls. If you can help, please contact Angela Gray at angela@grayemail.co.uk or come to the next Fete meeting in The Bell on Tuesday April 16 at 8pm.
Secret Dealers - the producers of this ITV1 antiques programme are looking for people in the area who would like to cash in a few of their valuables and have the opportunity to have their possessions expertly valued with the possibility of selling them commission free to one of the dealers. The programme is about 3 rival antique dealers doing battle in private homes for items they can sell. Apply by phone to 01179707674 or email secretdealers@rdftelevision.com

Good news for devotees of Pilates who have missed Debbie’s classes in the village and who have not found a replacement class. A new weekly Pilates class is starting in the village hall on Tuesdays from 7 until 8pm. The first one will be on April 2. and will be suitable for all l levels of pilates ability. Steam train
My very reliable source of information for all matters concerning steam trains tells me that on Saturday April 6, the “Marylebone Flyer” with locomotive 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, a non-stop steam train, will be running from Birmingham to London along the Chiltern line and therefore through Chearsley. A very special event in the history of steam preservation, as it has been almost 60 years since the last public non-stop steam express train ran from Birmingham to London. Run in conjunction with Chiltern Railways, the train is scheduled to depart from the recently re-opened bay platforms at Birmingham Moor Street Station at about 10am, arriving non-stop into Marylebone just before noon. Anyone wishing to view it steam along the track at Chearsley and maybe getting a glimpse of my informant waving his hanky, should be ready and waiting around 11am. Be prepared to wait, as things don’t always go to plan. With a limited load of 8 coaches on this high-speed dash through the Chilterns, it is hoped to re-create the heady days of the Inter-city expresses that the Castle Class locomotives became renowned for.
Easter in Chearsley - There will be a Good Friday service at 10am in Chearsley Church and an Easter Garden Service and Communion at 10am on Easter Sunday March 31.
The Bell is holding an Easter Egg Hunt in the Bell garden at 11am with hot dogs, chips and squash costing £4.50 per child.
Refuse Collection - The collection of food bins and recycling bins will be a day later on Saturday March 30, as no collections take place on Good Friday.
Bingo at The Bell - The April session of Bingo is on Tuesday April 2 starting at around 8.30pm. A specially priced meal is available for bingo players.
Parish Council Meeting - this took place on Monday March 18 under the chairmanship of Nic Brown with 5 members of the public present. Vehicle damage to verges and banks around the village was discussed. Thoughtless car parking at the Village Green was a problem and should be discouraged, lorries causing damage should have their number taken and reported. Damage caused by the sewage lorries last year in Church Lane had yet to be made good despite letters to them. The Parish Council would make a formal complaint. It was agreed a suggestion of posts and chain around the village green for protection and safety of children could be discussed by the village at the annual meeting. AVDC had agreed to reinstate damage round The Old Plough at their cost. Priority areas in the kerbing programme would be looked at by Mike Heybrook and further funding applied for to match money put aside by the Parish Council in order to continue the kerbing plan.
The council agreed to send a letter to the planning committee concerning the proposed extension in Bernards Close, supporting a neighbour’s despair about the lack of communication and consideration he has had with the planning authorities
It was agreed to have a presentation concerning a cycle path between Chearsley and Haddenham station – a very costly venture needing serious funding – at the Annual Parish Meeting and for further investigations to proceed through the Village Plan.
The Village plan progress is continuing with hopes for a village open meeting to be held in June with the final plan ready for publication in early autumn.
The next Parish Council meeting will be held on Monday April 15 at 7.30pm in the village hall.

Chearsley Village Plan
The results from the village consultation are now available to view on the Chearsley Planning Forum website. A paper copy is available by contacting Gerry Wiles on 01844 202791. There was a good response to the questionnaires of nearly 40% and giving a clear indication of feelings on a range of subjects. The topic groups are continuing to investigate the results and work towards compiling the Village Plan. The Steering group is meeting monthly. This is all with the aim of holding an Open meeting for the village in due course. Please contact Gerry as above or John Lewis on 01844 201011, or email plan@chearsley.com for more information or with any input, which is always welcome.
Lil Edmiston - It is sad news to hear that Lil has died on March 1, 2 years short of reaching 100. Lil was the mother of Liz Carte, who was married to Eric, Chearsley’s actor. Lil had lived in the village for many years before moving to Gosport a few years ago, where she lived in her own home near to her sister and son, only needing some care at home for the past months. She had a fall recently, breaking her hip, from which she never properly recovered and died in hospital. She will be remembered by many, in particular for her time at Chearsley Playgroup as a very important grandmother figure. Condolences to her family, particularly Eric and Lil’s son, Billy, who also lived in Chearsley for a few years.
Chearsley Classic Car and Fun Day - Please make a note that this will take place at the Cricket Club on Sunday September 8th from 12 until 4pm. Preparations are well in hand and promises to be a good village day out for all the family.
British Red Cross Volunteers - volunteers are needed for The Red Cross annual fundraising week which takes place from May 5 until May 11. If you would like to be part of the world’s largest humanitarian organisation, to make a difference to the lives of people in your local community all the while having fun, then please contact Sharon Cooper on 01296 739309 or email scooper@redcross.org.uk for more information.
British Red Cross Open Gardens - During April, May and June, several gardens throughout Buckinghamshire will be open to visit in support of the British Red Cross. The first one will be Kingsbridge Farm, Steeple Claydon, which will be open on Sunday April 1 from 11am until 3pm with an entry fee of £3.50 for the Red Cross funds. It is a garden of over 6 acres evolved over 25 years aiming to have interest through all the seasons and a peaceful haven for wildlife, including a woodland walk by a stream, shrubs and herbaceous beds. There will be hot soup, tea and homemade cakes, jams chutneys, plants and garden accessories for sale. A children’s treasure hunt will be organised. You are also welcome to bring a picnic. The garden is 3 miles south of Buckingham, halfway between Padbury and Steeple Claydon.
Florence Nightingale Hospice General Knowledge Quiz - There will be another of these very popular quizzes in Chearsley village hall on Saturday April 27 at 7.15 for a prompt 7.30pm start. Proceeds raised are for the Florence Nightingale Hospice Fund. Tickets cost £5 each with a maximum of 8 per team. Please bring your own food, drink and a glass. Please ring The fundraising office for Florence Nightingale on 01296 429975 to book your ticket or for more information. Tickets go quickly, so hurry up before it gets booked up.

Neighbourhood Return to launch in Buckinghamshire
This is a message from Thames Valley Alert Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood and Home Watch Network
Neighbourhood Return, the Neighbourhood and Home Watch Network project which uses community volunteers to search for people with memory problems who have gone missing, has just received funding from Thames Valley Police to expand its pilot area to include Buckinghamshire and Berkshire.
We are contacting you to ask if you would please consider volunteering to help search for people with memory problems who have gone missing. All you need is a mobile phone, the ability to text, and to be 18 or over. We would not expect you to get called upon very frequently to assist.
If you agree to assist, what happens if someone with dementia goes missing in your local area is that the project’s call centre will contact you to see if you are available to help look for them. If you are, they will text you the details of the person you are looking for and give you instructions on where to search. If you are contacted, you can always text back ‘no’ if you are not in the area, or are not available. You can also join or leave the search at any point by contacting the call centre. Searches never last longer than two-and-a-half hours, after which time Thames Valley Police take over.
Your help would be greatly appreciated even if you work full time – you may do shift work or be prepared to search after work or on days off. To ensure the success of the project we need as many people as possible to opt in, so that we can be sure there are enough people to search. Please do consider opting in to the Neighbourhood Return project and helping to support carers of people with dementia in your local area.
You can both sign up to be a volunteer and register an at-risk person through the Neighbourhood Return website: www.ourturn.org.uk.

Please do consider opting in to the Neighbourhood Return project and helping to support carers of people with dementia in your local area.
You can both sign up to be a volunteer and register an at-risk person through the Neighbourhood Return website: www.ourturn.org.uk.
