This is a Neighbourhood Alert from Thames Valley Police, Aylesbury
The Waddesdon Neighbourhood Policing Team have received several reports in the past couple of weeks, of the theft of tools from vehicles and from outbuildings. The outbuildings, that have been targeted, appear to be linked to places where building works are in progress.
Although the majority of these crimes are overnight, tools have also been stolen from vehicles during the day.
Please ensure that all vehicles and outbuildings are secured. If you would like any advice on crime prevention, please contact your local Neighbourhood Police Team.
If you have any information in relation to these crimes, please call the 24 hour Police Enquiry Centre number 101. If you don’t want to talk to the Police or give your details you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Events at The Bell:
Halloween and Pumpkin times are fast approaching at the end of this month and Sharon has plans to celebrate both events at The Bell.
Best Looking Pumpkin Competition – Monday October 29th. This is a variation on the heaviest pumpkin competition which has regularly been held in The Bell, in view of the fact that not many pumpkins have been grown successfully this year. Get creative and imaginative with your shop-bought pumpkin and bring it to The Bell on Monday evening for judging.
Children’s Halloween Party – Wednesday October 31 4.30 until 6 at The Bell. Buy tickets from Sharon at The Bell £4.00 each to include games, good and drink. For catering purposes, it would help if tickets can be purchased before the day.
There are regular weekly attractions and ways of supporting The Bell, including a new Meat Raffle on Sundays. Tickets for this are £2 for meat from either Sherwins of Long Crendon or Jim at Orchard View Farm, Little Meadle. The draws take place at 3pm. Other nights offer pie and pint or glass of wine for £10 on Tuesday nights; Rob’s special curry nights for £10 with pint or glass of wine on Thursdays and Friday Nights are Fish Nights with 2 fish and chips and bottle of wine for £25 and fresh fish specials for £12.
Shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child
Our church is joining in this scheme to spread the love of God by sending shoeboxes of simple gifts to needy children around the world. They are asking for help in providing these or donations of individual items can be placed in a box at the back of the Church. To create a shoe box, wrap a medium sized shoe box in Christmas paper, mark whether it is suitable for a girl or boy in age groups from 2 to 4; 5 to 9 or 10 -14 and include £2.50 to cover shipping costs. Suggested items to include would be toys – soft toys, tennis ball, yoyo, building blocks, cars, dolls; educational – pens, pencils, colouring, puzzle books, notepad, pencil case; hygiene items – toothbrush, soap, flannel, comb, hair clips. There are certain unsuitable items which should not be included – food, especially chocolate; no war-related items such as guns, soldiers; no clothing except gloves, scarves, caps, hats; no fragile items eg mirrors; no liquids as in shampoo, bubblebath, blow bubbles; no aerosols; nothing of a political nature and no hand-knitted stuffed toys without a CE mark.
Any shoeboxes or donations should be taken to the Church before October 28.

This will next be in the village by The Green on Monday October 22 from 12.20 until 12.45pm.
Mapp and Lucia Friday October 19 at 8pm
Tickets are selling well for this Theatre in the Villages Production, but there should be tickets available on the night. So do come along. A bar selling beer and wine will be open before the 8pm start and during the interval.

Do you own a Ford Galaxy or Seat Alhambra?
These vehicles are currently being targeted by thieves who are stealing catalytic converters. Where possible, please park your vehicle inside a garage or in such a position that makes access to the exhaust more difficult. Offences are occurring overnight, most recently 5 vehicles were attacked in Buckingham. It is believed that the offenders are ignoring other vehicles and are likely to be travelling around prior to the theft looking for vehicles to target.
If anyone is seen in unusual circumstances, underneath vehicles, interfering with the exhaust system please ring 999 as this may well be a crime in progress.

Bingo at The Bell
The monthly Bingo session at The Bell on Tuesday October 2 was very nearly standing room only. It attracts out-of-town visitors! Word is spreading of what a great evening it is with a bit of east and west wing rivalry, with callers, Paul Kingsman and Andy Camden performing their usual comedy act, (they try their hardest as long as their glasses are to hand) aided and abetted by Linda and others. Many players enjoyed a meal beforehand. The evening ended with a top prize of £72 for a lucky player and the raffle raised £34 for the charity boxes on the bar. Why not come along and try your luck and have a bit of fun at the next Bingo evening on Tuesday November 6.
Quiz Night at The Bell
A good way to end the weekend is by coming to the next Quiz night at The Bell on Sunday October 7. Come along in a team or on your own. First question at 7.30pm.
Poppy Appeal
Sue Grimsdell will be out and about with her collecting tin and poppies over the weekend of 27 and 28 October. Sue has been doing this very worthwhile and arduous task for a number of years, and last year was very pleased to raise over £390. Please give generously to help her beat this amount this year. Sue is having a more than usual busy time as her son Nick is getting married to Lucinda on November 2, so there are wedding plans to finalize and hen weekends to go on.
3 Chiltern Peaks Sponsored Walk
Peter Grimsdell recently took part in this walk on Sunday September 16 with other members of his family and was pleased to raise £583 in aid of the Iain Rennie Hospice. It took them 5 and a half hours to complete the 18 miles from White Leaf Cross, Princes Risborough to Coombe Hill and on to Ivinghoe Beacon. Peter writes “I did the walk to put something back after all the help we had from various hospices when Sue’s Dad was so ill. We all got our medals for completing the walk, including the dogs Bella and Rosie.” Well done Peter and family and thank you for the information.

Tickets are selling well for what should prove to be a very good evening at the village hall on Friday October 19 at 8pm. Please get your tickets as soon as possible if you are considering coming to this local theatre event. We are very lucky to be able to host one of the Theatre in the Villages productions and look forward to welcoming back Sandra Hunt who so splendidly played the starring role in Fast Woman last year. This year we will be offering wine and beer for sale. Come early to have a drink and chat with friends before settling into your seats for the 8pm start. You will be able to top up your glasses during the interval. Please ring 01844 208913 for more information and tickets.
Mediterranean Evening
There are still a few days before this village event in the village hall on Saturday October 13 at 7.30pm. A 3 course meal with entertainment for £15. Please ring Pauline Parkes on 202250 to see if there are still tickets available.
Chearsley Cricket Club
The club is celebrating 90 years Cricket in Chearsley with a dinner and dance on Saturday December 1 at Studley Wood Golf Club. Tickets are £35 each for the 3 course meal and dancing to a live band. There will be a raffle and auction to raise funds for the club. No formal speeches this year. Transport at about £10 each will be available. The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on Monday October 15 at 7.30 in the village hall. Come to find out what is being discussed in your village, to put any questions you may have during the open session and be involved in your village concerns and future.

Shoeboxes Wanted
This year St Nicholas will be joining in with Operation Christmas Child which aims to demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to needy children around the world by sending them a shoe box filled with simple gifts like soft toys, jigsaws, toothbrushes, pencils and stickers.
You can collect gifts and fill a shoe box yourself, bringing it to church at or before the Family Service on October 28th, or you can donate items in the box at the back of the church, including wrapping paper and shoe boxes.
If you would like to create a box:
1) Find a medium sized shoe box
2) Wrap the box in Christmas wrapping paper
3) Mark if it is for a boy or girl and the age range (2-4/5-9/10-14)
4) Include £2.50 for shipping costs
5) Fill it with a mixture of items from the following:
Toys:Bear, soft toy, tennis ball, finger puppet, jigsaw, yo-yo, building blocks, small musical instrument. Trucks and cars, dolls, clip on earrings etc.
Educational Supplies:Felt pens, pens, pencils, pencil sharpener, eraser, colouring book, notepad, picture or puzzle book, chalk, pencil case, stickers, etc.
Hygiene Items:Toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, comb, hair clips, bar of soap, flannel, etc.
Other Items:Sweets (sell-by date to be at least March of the following year ), gloves, scarf, sunglasses, cap, hat, bangles, necklaces etc.
All gifts should be new, please include items from each category.
Items that unfortunately they can not accept
No Food especially chocolate - non-chocolate sweets are allowed
No medicine or vitamins of any kind
No war related items toy guns, soldiers or knives of any kind
No clothing other than listed above
No fragile items glass containers, mirrors
No liquids including blow bubbles, shampoo, bubble bath, toiletry sets or aerosols.
No dangerous items sharp objects, scissors or razors
No novels Nothing of a political nature
No hand-knitted stuffed toys without a CE mark
6) Bring it to church on or before October 28th
