Mapp and Lucia Ahoy - Friday October 19th
This was a very successful evening when an audience of over 60 villagers and others from all over Bucks came to be entertained by two very talented actresses, Sandra Hunt and Rachel Lawrence, who took on the many characters in this adaptation of Mapp and Lucia, as part of the annual Theatre in the Villages programme. A bar helped to make it a very social and agreeable occasion and proceeds from this and a raffle helped to raise funds for the upkeep of the village hall by over £200. Thank you to everyone who supported this village venture. It is hoped to be able to be to host another production next year.
Best Dressed Pumpkin competition - Monday October 29 at The Bell
A variation on the heaviest pumpkin this year. Use your imagination to carve out the scariest, prettiest or most unusual pumpkin and bring it to The Bell for judging on Monday evening.
Children’s Halloween Party – This is on Wednesday October 31st from 4.30 until 6 at The Bell. Buy tickets from Sharon for £4.00 each, before the day if possible, to include games, food and drink.
Mobile Library
This will next be in the village by The Green on Monday November 5 from 12.20 until 12.45pm.

November’s Bingo will be on Tuesday November 6 in The Bell, with eyes down around 8.30pm. Come early and have a meal at a special Bingo player’s price.
Information Fair of Services for Older People on Friday November 16
There will be an Information Fair with stands offering information on free services available to the older person. This will be held at Haddenham Village Hall on Friday November 16 from 1.30 until 3.30pm. There is no need to book, just turn up and go to any stands which might be of interest and speak directly with the people providing services to support older people locally. As part of the Building Community Capacity Project by AVDC, a briefing has been prepared. Email lmaddocks@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk for more information. It includes information on getting an Assessment of driving skills, offered through Bucks County Council. The assessment lasts approximately 1 hour and will be in the client’s own vehicle. It costs £35 and includes verbal feedback, a written report, certificate of completion and the latest copy of the Highway Code. You can book online via www.buckscc.gov.uk/beabetterdriver or phone 01296 382540. The briefing also states that on reaching the age of 70, the driving licence has to be renewed and that the law requires DVLA to be notified of the onset or worsening of a medical condition which may affect the ability to drive safely and that the eyesight test requires a standard number plate to be read from 67ft away. There is also advice on the right time to stop driving and how you can manage without your car by using other transport schemes.

Crimestoppers Appeal

Crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers is offering up to £1000 for information that leads to the arrest and charge of the person responsible for a catalytic converter theft in Aylesbury Vale.
Thames Valley Crimestoppers and local metal theft partners are cracking down on metal theft crime in the district after a spate of recent thefts which have seen as many as 21 catalytic converters (part of the exhaust system containing precious metals) being stolen in one weekend alone.
Thames Valley Police in Aylesbury have been using carefully positioned trap cars across the district to target offenders. They would like to speak to the man pictured on Crimestoppers website as they think he may have information about catalytic converter theft. The public are asked to help identify him by taking a closer look on the Most Wanted at CrimeStoppers.
Julia Hughes from Thames Valley Crimestoppers said: “Crimestoppers wants to encourage the public to fight back against the metal thieves who are creating severe disruption for local people and costing millions to the UK economy.
“Do you know who this man is? Do you have any other information about metal theft? Information given to Crimestoppers is completely anonymous. We don’t want to know who you are only what you know and you might even qualify for a reward which is also paid anonymously. Just call us on 0800 555 111 or go online.”
Det Insp Russ Murden, of Thames Valley Police commented: “Since the launch of Operation Tornado in June this year, Thames Valley Police have been cracking down on metal thieves, employing tactics such as ‘trap cars’ and multi-agency days of action. This has resulted in a 48% reduction in metal theft crime over the past six months. However we still need the public to be vigilant and provide information that can help us stop these criminals from disrupting lives and causing serious and costly damage.”
Thieves are targeting ‘CAT’s from high rise vehicles such as 4 x 4’s and people carriers as they are easier to get underneath, but every car is a potential target and having to replace a catalytic converter can cost £1000s as well as the inconvenience of your car being off the road. Make it harder for a thief to steal yours by knowing where your ‘CAT’ is located, position that side closest to the kerb or block your car in making it difficult for someone to get underneath. Leave your vehicle in a well-lit area or park in a garage where possible and consider property marking your ‘CAT’. ylesbury Vale District Council in partnership with Bucks County Council are offering free CAT marking to local residents at local garages, contact the community safety team for more details on 01296 585061.

Thames Valley Police Alert
Thames Valley Police Aylesbury Vale has received information that an illegal music gathering may take place this weekend, Saturday, 20 and Sunday 21 October.
Police officers are visiting locations where these gatherings are likely to take place or have taken place in the past. They will be offering advice to farmers and landowners on how to secure their land.
Insp Emma Garside said: “It is far easier for police to stop a rave occurring if we get an early indication of people arriving and setting up equipment. Sometimes a high number of vehicles parking on the side of the road, generators being set up or music being heard may be a sign. I would ask the community to be vigilant and if you notice any of these things occurring where you live then please ring the police immediately. The sooner we are told, the sooner we can respond.
“Police have successfully prosecuted previous rave organisers in this area and we are committed to preventing such disruption again. If you are a landowner who has been approached and asked to accommodate such an event we want to hear from you too.“
If you notice anyone acting suspiciously who may be conducting early reconnaissance on rural land or starting to set up an event, please contact Thames Valley Police on 101 promptly with a description and location to help us prevent a rave before it starts.
