Chearsley Show September 3
Show Day is very nearly here. An annual village event which has been held in the village hall for several years and can only take place with thanks to the hard work of a small team of villagers presided over by Joy Payne. There are a few rules to be kept to. Entrants must live in Chearsley and only 1 entry is allowed in any 1 class, but there is no limit to the number of classes entered. All horticultural exhibits must have been in the entrant’s possession for at least 2 months (so no going to the Garden Centre on Saturday morning for a pot plant or to Waitrose for some tomatoes!) Entry forms have to be with Joy Payne of 1 Bernards Close by Wednesday August 31 together with the fee of 20p per item.
A considerable amount of organisation and planning is required to prepare for the day after the entry forms are submitted, so please ensure these are with Joy in time. On the day, the hall will be open for the setting out of entries by exhibitors from 8.30 until 10.15am ready for the judging at 10.30am. The Show is then open to the public from 2.45pm, admission £1 with free entry for children. At 3.30pm there will be the presentation of awards and trophies and cash prizes for children’s entries by our new Reverend, Richard Phillips who we are delighted to welcome to his first Chearsley event. The raffle will be drawn after this.
Teas are on sale throughout the afternoon. It is a very friendly, small village show with only a tiny amount of rivalry and competition and its success depends on the support and enthusiasm of villagers taking part. So please try to find something to exhibit and come and join in.

Chearsley Challenge and Barn Dance Saturday September 10
The Cricket Club and Village Hall committee have combined forces to organise a fun Obstacle Race afternoon for the whole family followed by a Barn Dance and Picnic to take place on Saturday September 10, as a run up to The Chearsley Village Classic & Vintage Fun Day taking place at the Cricket Club the next day. All proceeds from the afternoon will go to the New Village hall fund. The “Challenge” will start at 4pm and will include jumping over hay bales, horse jumps, crawling under netting and wheel barrow races. The cost will be £3 per child and £10 for a family to enter.
If you are interested in coming along, please let Alex Wall Morris, Angela Grey or Antonia Stratford know or email the Village Hall Committee at chearsleyvillagehall@hotmail.co.uk.
The Barn Dance and family picnic will start after the obstacle races at around 6pm. Entry to this is free, however tables will be available to purchase on the night. The bar, of course, will be open throughout the afternoon and evening. Please come for a fun day and support your village.

Bingo and Quiz Nights at The Bell return
The Summer holiday month of August might nearly be over and the nights are starting to draw in, but there are the regular monthly Bingo and Quiz nights at The Bell to look forward to which restart in the first week of September. Bingo will be held on Tuesday September 6 with Eyes Down at around 8.30pm. There are some good cash prizes to be won, depending on how many take part, but it is not unusual for the final Full House of the evening to be worth £60. So your Bingo evening could turn out to be profitable as well as a very enjoyable time. The Sunday Quiz follows on Sunday September 11 at 8pm when it is time to get your thinking caps on and come and find out how much you know, or don’t know. Come on your own and join a table or come in a group. It really doesn’t matter. Everyone is welcome
