Garden Waste Bins
The green bags for garden waste, which is a free scheme currently in operation, is ceasing in September. Brown garden waste bins, which will be collected every fortnight between February and November, is a new service being offered throughout the County including Chearsley. This will cost £36 a year. Please ring 01296 585510 for more information and to register your interest and sign up, or visit www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/gardenwaste. Chearsley is part of Phase 4 of the scheme which started in June and includes Cuddington, Long Crendon, Shabbington and Ickford. I have been assured that Chearsley residents can join this scheme. There will be an opportunity to talk to Aylesbury Vale about the new collection procedures at their stands at Winslow Show on Monday August 27 and at Bucks County Show on Thursday August 30.

Theatre in the Villages Friday October 19 in Chearsley Village Hall
This is an opportunity for rural communities in Aylesbury Vale to be able to enjoy professional arts on their doorstep and Chearsley Village Hall Committee is very pleased to be a host to an event. We are delighted to welcome back in October, Sandra Hunt who entertained us so enthrallingly last year in Fast Woman in “Mapp and Lucia Ahoy” with Rachel Lawrence who has adapted this from the much-loved novels of EF Benson. In this production, they bring to life arch rivals, Mapp and Lucia and their friends in a very funny exuberant celebration of the uniquely English art of one-up-(wo)manship. The performance will be in Chearsley village hall on Friday October 19 at 8pm. Tickets are £10 each and will be available shortly from me. Please note that this event is not being held at any other venue during this year’s Theatre in the Villages’ programme. So come along to Chearsley on Friday October 19. For details of all the shows available to book, please go to www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/theatreinthevillages or call 01296 585301

The Bell
Our local Pub with its large, safe and very child friendly garden which is particularly enchanting when the sun shines, has several meal offers during the week at the moment. The Pub is not open Monday lunchtime and does no food in the evening. Tuesday offers a pie ( rare breed lamb and rosemary or pork to an Elizabethan recipe) and pint or glass of wine for £10. Meat for the pies is supplied by Orchard View Farm at Little Meadle, who are very proud to have recently been awarded 3 Great Taste Award Gold Stars for their free range pork. Thursday is curry and pint day for £10; Fresh fish on Fridays - choice of fish for £11, or a deal of 2 Chiswick battered fish and chips with a bottle of wine for £25. Sunday has roast lunches. Normal menus are always available. Coming shortly, after a break for the Summer is the monthly Tuesday Bingo Night when a special Bingo players meal is available. Also the monthly Sunday night Quiz starting on Sunday September 9.

Chearsley Cricket Club Ferret Racing
The club enjoyed a successful family afternoon last Sunday July 29. Last week’s edition of the Bucks Herald showed some good photos of the occasion. Around £700 was made which will go towards Club refurbishments.

Are you a Carer? Do You need a Break?
There are many unpaid carers in the community who perhaps don’t recognise themselves as such, and would therefore not consider themselves eligible to apply for a new grant. This is for anyone over 18 who cares unpaid for someone for 20 hours a week – for example, a husband or wife whose spouse has had a stroke or has dementia, a son or daughter looking after a frail parent, or parents with a disabled child. The new grant of up to £500 is to help carers take a break. Applications are made through your GP surgery. It is suggested that an appointment be made with your doctor to discuss the care you give and to have your name put forward for the grant. Should the surgery be unaware of this new grant, please contact Alex at CarersBucks on 0300 777 2722 for help. If not enough carers apply for the grant, it may not be extended in the future.

Mobile library

The mobile library will next be in the village on Monday August 13 from 12.20 to 12.45pm. Please note that it will not be here again until September 10.
