Best of British Fete
Saturday June 29 was a glorious warm and sunny day bringing many villagers and other visitors to The Green to enjoy the day. We were pleased to have the Fete opened by Chearsley’s Eric Carte, doing his best to fool us disguised in an old lady’s hat and handbag, an actor of many parts on tv, film and stage. He then hosted the Fete as announcer and presenter throughout the day. There was plenty to keep everyone busy and entertained all afternoon with time to take refreshment at The Bell, sit around, chat and watch the world go by in the lovely sunshine and maybe spot a local celebrity, as well as Eric – Tony Hadley led by his 16month old daughter. The evening’s music provided by local boy, Eddie Bains and his band and disco by Jack Lazaruk with fish and chips from The Bell rounded off the successful day.
A very creditable £4,600 was made, which will be divided between the Church, the village hall and the village trust. Congratulations to everyone who put in such hard work beforehand and on the day, and in particular to Angela Gray for chairing the committee.
Mobile Library – this is next in the village on Monday July 15 on the village green from 12.20 until 12.45pm
Cleaner for Chearsley Village Hall - The committee are looking for someone to clean the village hall each week, which should take about 2 hours at £7.50 per hour. The cleaning could be done at any time from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening, depending upon any weekend bookings. Please contact Ruth Holland on 01844 208343 if you are interested.
Are you Retired? – an opportunity to become involved in an exciting new programme to be shown on Channel 4 which would like to hear from retired workers about their past jobs, careers and skills. No matter what job it has been, they would like to hear from you. Email theagency@plumpictures.co.uk for more information. Contacting them does not commit you to becoming involved.
