Aylesbury road into Chearsley
Nic Brown has written the following message to us all :
Hello Chearsley
As you may be aware your Parish Council has been working very hard behind and in front of the scenes to convince the relevant authorities for the need to improve our roads in and around the village of Chearsley, in terms of their condition and safety. This has involved both written communication and face to face meetings with senior officials at both AVDC and BCC. I believe we have had some success in highlighting the seriousness of the situation and hope that we may see tangible results from our efforts in due course.
And our congratulations to Clive Harriss, our new Bucks County Councillor for the Bernwood Ward, and our sincere thanks for his swift involvement in supporting our efforts in making Chearsley safer and a special place to live.
As some may know, Clive attended our recent Annual Village Meeting and, following his success in the recent election, has already communicated his concerns about the Aylesbury Road to the senior management at Transport for Bucks, as follows:
“As the newly elected Councillor for Bernwood Ward, I feel it my first act should be to bring your attention to the road surface on the road leading into Chearsley from Cuddington. This has become progressively more dangerous. The route is popular with road cycling enthusiasts and a surface in this condition could cause a serious accident. The surface is not only breaking up, but water seeps from the drains and earlier in the year ran from right to left as you looked up the hill, washing across the roadway creating a further hazard. We will keep you posted on all new developments.
Attached are photographs which, without trying, show just how serious the problem is, can you please advise when this stretch can be included in the ongoing road way improvement program?
I look forward to hearing from you.”
Nic Brown, Chairman Chearsley Parish Council
Meeting of the Parish Council
This will be held this Monday May 15 at 7.30pm in the village hall. It will be the AGM when officers are elected. The agenda of the meeting is available to view on the Parish Council webpage. Among matters to be discussed are amended plans for the proposed development at 2-4 Winchendon Road, the new village hall, footpaths report, parking at the end of Bernard's Close, a Chearsley flag and furniture for The Green. There is the opportunity for members of the public to comment and question at the beginning and end of the meeting. The councillors welcome everyone to attend and support them, and after the success and well attended last village meeting, they are hopeful for a good attendance on Monday.
Thanksgiving for the Life of Rosemary Wallis
The Church was full on Tuesday May 9 to say goodbye to Rosemary, whose name means an emblem of remembrance, at this service led by Richard Phillips and to hear, Anthems and Choruses from Georgian England performed by Aylesbury Choral Society and recorded at Whitchurch Parish Church on July 14 2012.
Rosemary was a valued member of this Society and had performed with them for over 50 years, including the recording of the music played at this service. From tributes by the family and Joy Payne and Alicia Howard, as present church wardens in a village tribute, we learned of Rosemary’s farming background, her move here with husband Don to build their own house, Merrifield, Dark Lane and be reminded of her love of Chearsley, particularly the church and Sunday School and the countless ways in which she had contributed to Chearsley life. Donations can be made, in memory of Rosemary, to Cancer Research UK and to her beloved St Nicholas’s Church.
Exemplary Service
Joy must be very proud of her son, David for his recent award “For 15 years of exemplary and irreproachable service, Lance Corporal David Payne is awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal” Congratulations to Chearsley born and bred, David Payne, honoured by his regiment for his continuous service in The Royal Engineers. Well done, David. A pint is waiting for you in The Bell.
Chearsley Cricket Club
The season is now underway with already a win for the first XI in the Cherwell league. Details of the club’s fixtures and other information can be found in the 2017 handbook available from the Club and The Bell. Get a copy and come and support our village teams, or, better still, if possible, find out about playing for them.
New players are always wanted. The Chearsley Cricket All Stars who play in the Bicester Aunt Sally league have got off to a good start with 2 successful matches.
Flower Festival at St Nicholas June 30 to July 2
Offers of help are needed for this weekend. Volunteers are wanted to help with tea making, welcoming visitors and to show them round the church, plants for the plant stall and also donations of flowers and greenery. Previous Flower Festivals have seen the Church looking lovely attracting large numbers of visitors.
Please contact Joy Payne if you would like to help in any way.
Chearsley Village Hall
It is hoped that the first step towards building a new hall will be made on July 24. Donations for the final £60,000 are still very much needed to meet the total cost of approximately £540,000. Antonia Stratford, the chairman of the village hall committee has been tireless in her efforts to apply for funding from many organisations over the past months. But a bit more is still needed. If you feel able to donate, please visit the dedicated fundraising page at www.make-a-donation.org and search for Chearsley Village Hall. Gift aid, if appropriate, can also be claimed on your donation. Alternatively, a cheque or cash donation can be given to Alex Wall Morris, or Antonia, or Angela Gray or John Lewis. With your support, the new hall that Chearsley needs can be achieved.
Meadow Song
The possible final village fundraiser by the Village Hall committee and a farewell to the old hall, Meadow Song will be held on Saturday July 8 when Joy Payne’s brother, Paul Shinar and friend Laura will be singing popular songs . Fete on Saturday June 24
The British Country Afternoon will start on The Green at 12.30 and offers a traditional fete with the usual stalls, games, teas, BBQ and side shows and fun and games for the children. It continues into the evening when The Bell will be providing music for dancing and pig roast or fish and chips. The proceeds from this year’s Fete will be donated to the village hall fund. There are some really good raffle prizes available to win in the Grand Draw this year. Tickets will be available soon.
