AVDC Design Awards 2018
Fingers crossed for an award for Chearsley Village Hall in this year’s AVDC Design Awards. This year has seen a high number of entries and our new hall has been shortlisted. Judges will be visiting the hall on Judging day, October 30 prior to the Presentation of Awards on the evening of Thursday November 29. All shortlisted entries will be posted on the AVDC website. In previous years, Stony Furlong and Odyssey have been shortlisted and been commended by the judges.
To celebrate 25 years of outstanding design in The Vale, the public are this year being invited to vote for their favourite. Chearsley Village Hall is one of 9, but with some strong opposition, including Dinton Folly. Details of how to vote and before and after photos of the 9 entries, can be found on the AVDC website. Voting closes on October 31.

Community Speed Camera Programme
Chearsley Parish Council is asking for volunteers to help with this scheme. Following input from village meetings on ways to help curb speeding through Chearsley, the Parish Council is looking to implement a Community Speed Camera programme. This will require a number of volunteers to be trained and to operate the local Sentinel speed camera at designated spots in the 30mph zones approved by the Police. Depending on the number of volunteers available, this would likely take up to half a day on designated days. The speed camera is shared amongst several neighbouring villages, so it needs to be booked ahead of time and will be available for operation a day or so at a time. The main task is just to look after the device, as once collected and set up on its stand, it automatically captures details of cars travelling at speeds above 35mph. There is already a small core nucleus of trained volunteers who can quickly train anyone who is interested and has the time to help. The work is being co-ordinated on behalf of the Parish Council by Keith Turnbull, who can be contacted at keith.turnbull1@gmail.com or phone 07785 725177. Please help if you can.

A Cake and Coffee Sale will be held on Saturday November 3 in Chearsley Village Hall from 1pm to 3.30pm. This is to raise funds for Cancer Research UK and the Children’s Cancer Charity (CLIC). Everyone is welcome.

Elevenses and Christmas Food Fair Saturday December 1 will be held in Chearsley Village Hall from 10am to 1pm when there will be coffee and cake, Christmas decorations and goodies for sale and a Prize Raffle.

A Quiz Night on Saturday December 1 is being held in Chearsley Village Hall in aid of Cystic Fibrosis Trust, helping change the lives of people with cystic fibrosis, a charity supported for many years by Chearsley residents. Cost is £15 per person to include nibbles, fish and chips from Mermaid Fish Bar, Long Crendon, water and bottle of wine for each table. There will be a bar with beer, wine and soft drinks on sale. Also a Prize Raffle. The Quiz master is Martin Hearmon. Teams of 6 to 8 welcome. Please contact Thia at thiarichards@gmail.com to book a table and for more information.

“Chearsley Remembers”
The Parish Council is sponsoring a “Chearsley Remembers” event on Remembrance Sunday November 11 to commemorate the centenary of the ending of The Great War. It will take place in the Village Hall immediately following the service at the War Memorial. It is hoped this will be a wonderful opportunity for the Chearsley community to share their memories, photographs, letters and other memorabilia from The Great War, as a fitting tribute to all those from our own village as well as the many others who made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of us all.
Please bring your memorabilia and exhibits to the hall on the day where tables and display boards will be available. Or you may like to create a display ahead of the event. Please let the Parish Council know your plans to help them plan the exhibition which will also include a display of art by children in the village. Please contact John Howard on 07970 651326 or email jnh@dbmc.co.uk.
On Remembrance Day, November 11 at around 12.30pm, the bells of St Nicholas Church will be ringing in unison with other local churches as part of a nationwide campaign “The Ringing Remembers”. In addition, the Parish Council will be raising funds for their chosen charity “The Not Forgotten Association”.
Programme for Sunday November 11:
10.45am Remembrance Service at The War Memorial
11.30am Chearsley Remembers Exhibition opens at the village hall with free entrance and refreshments available.
12.30pm (approximate timing) The Ringing Remembers at the church.
2.00pm The exhibition closes.

Children’s Art Work
The Parish Council would very much like to put a display of children’s art work in a large frame in the bus stop and are inviting all children to create a picture of about A5 size for Remembrance Sunday. All pictures will be on show in the Village Hall on Remembrance Sunday before being put in the bus stop display frame. All entries should include the child’s first name and age and given to Sharon at Cloverdale, Lower Green Lane by November 8.
