PANCAKE PARTY

The pancake party at the church on Tuesday was a great success with over 60 people queuing up for their pancakes. The children loved seeing their pancakes being made and then getting to choose their toppings, jam, lemon, sugar, maple syrup, you name it. Some children tried some weird combinations of these! Once they had filled their tummies, they enjoyed a story about Jake the boy who ate too many pancakes (see below), then they had a chance to toss a pancake. Some more successfully than others as you can see from the photos!

Jake the pancake boy

This is the story of a boy called Jake.
He liked to eat lots of pancakes.

‘I’m hungry’, he said and rubbed his tummy
I will make a pancake that’s tasty and yummy.

He mixed the batter and started to fry.
He thought about different pancakes to try.

He flipped the pancake – it didn’t drop.
Then he tried to decide what to put on top.

Sugar and lemon, that’s easy and sweet
or I could try tuna or perhaps some meat.

What about chocolate, cream and honey,
Or cheese and pickle – that would be funny.

‘I know’, he said, ‘I will make them all.
All that food will make me grow tall.’

So he cooked for two hours without stopping.
Then ate all those pancakes – his tummy kept growing.

But he’d eaten too much and felt very ill.
So he went to the bathroom and took a pill.

He decided maybe pancakes were not his favourite dinner.
‘I won’t eat another pancake until I get thinner'

Theatre Trip to London
A coach trip to see Mrs Warren’s Profession by George Bernard Shaw, in which Eric Carte is appearing, (with Felicity Kendal among others) is being planned for Saturday, April 17th. The coach will leave Chearsley at 12.00pm for the matinee performance at The Comedy Theatre, Panton Street at 2.30pm. We should be back in Chearsley between 6 and 7pm. A Pie and Mash night is happening at The Bell on Wednesday February 24th.

Recycling
Tuesday, 23rd February when paper, plastics and cans are due to be collected.

Chearsley - Living Through History

Does anyone know of any spare copies of Ted Hooton's book of Chearsley? We have received enquiries from folk keen to learn more of the history of our village, and I know Jay in the Village Shop would love to have a copy to share.

Mobile Library
This will next be in the Village, near the Noticeboard, on Monday February 15th from 1.10 until 1.35pm.

Chearsley W.I.
Chearsley W.I meet on Tuesday 16th February at the Village Hall at 2.00pm when Bob Harding-Jones will be speaking on “Laughter in the Village”. He is a writer and performer and has worked at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and The Comedy Store. Non-members are welcome to attend at a cost of £2.

Bingo at The Bell
All tables were taken and the bar crowded at another lively Bingo evening at The Bell on Tuesday, 2nd February. A good fun evening. We are all getting to know the Bingo Lingo with the help of a few noisy veteran bingo goers and Paul, our admirable caller, aided and abetted by Andy, - One little duck for Number 2, Doctor’s orders (why this for number 9?) Droopy Drawers for 44 and Halfway There for 45, to mention a few. Come along to the next session on Tuesday, March 2nd for an 8pm start and learn a few more nicknames, and maybe win a bit of money.

Cuddington Youth Drama
Peter Pan is being performed by this drama group, which includes several Chearsley youngsters, at The Bernard Hall, Cuddington from February 16th to 21st. Please phone 01296 299129 for more information or to buy tickets.

Vegetable Growing with Mike and Hazel.
This scheme is for youngsters in Chearsley between 7 and 15 who would like to start growing their own vegetables on their own plot. Mike Heybrook and Hazel Hall would like to offer their invaluable experience and advice. Please ring Mike on 01844 208393 for more information or to offer to help.

Thames Valley Community Message

This is a Community Message from Aylesbury Watch Office on Monday 1 February 2010.

Thames Valley Police are urging residents to be vigilant and ensure their caravans have sufficient security, after two attempted thefts in the Waddesdon neighbourhood.

The most recent offence took place on Tuesday (26/1), where four men attempted to remove the wheel clamps from the caravan which was parked on a private driveway on Station Road, Quainton, between 10.30am and 2.30pm.

The first offence occurred on 7 October 2009, in Main Street, Grendon Underwood, again two men have attempted to remove the wheel clamps.

The offenders for the offence on Tuesday are all white, in their thirties and were driving a dark blue Ford Mondeo Estate.

The neighbourhood policing team will be increasing foot patrols in the area and will be offering crime prevention advice and property marking to caravan owners.

Anyone with information is urged to contact PC Gareth Morley at Waddesdon police station via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. If you do not want to talk to the police, call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
