Play safe, stay safe!

Personal safety information for young people during school holidays from AVDC Community Safety Project Support

The school holidays are fast approaching and whilst it’s a time to have lots of fun, safety should also be at the top of the list.  Personal safety is important at any time of the year and even more so during school holidays when teenagers are away from the safe environment of a school and have lots of spare time to fill, most often with friends and without adult supervision.

Whilst there are only a small number of youth related incidents, it is important that teenagers are aware of personal safety and how to protect themselves and their belongings, even more so due to the high number of valuables that are now being carried around such as mobile phones, MP3 players and games consoles.

Follow the advice below and make the summer holiday a time to remember for all the right reasons.

• Avoid taking short-cuts through dark or deserted places.
• Always try to avoid walking home alone. Stay with friends.
• Do not advertise your belongings, try to keep usage to a minimum in public and keep your mobile hidden when you're not using it
• Do not wear an IPod\mp3 player\personal stereo as it prevents you being aware of what is happening around you.
• Register your property by visiting www.immobilise.com
• Property mark all valuables
