No Steam on Sunday

I am reliably informed that the steam engine scheduled to pass by Chearsley tomorrow morning will be replaced by a diesel. Apparently this is due to the hot and dry conditions.

World Cup at Chearsley Cricket Club
The Club bar will be open from 6.30pm in readiness for the kick off at 7.00pm. this Thursday June 28 when England play Belgium. Everyone is welcome to come and watch. As England are already through to the next round, this match will be shown at the Club scheduled either for Monday 2nd or Tuesday 3rd at 7.00pm.

Steam Train through Chearsley this Sunday July 1st 2018
I have very reliable information that there will be a Steam Train scheduled to be pulled by Union of South Africa leaving London Paddington at 11.15am on its journey to Stratford-Upon-Avon travelling therefore along the Chiltern line. If you would like to watch it, the advice is that it is due to be in Princes Risborough at 12.30pm and therefore passing through Haddenham at about 12.35pm. But, the advice is to allow plenty of time for it to be a bit early or possibly late. On the return, if timings go to plan, and they often don’t, the train should be coming through Haddenham at 20.20pm. As you might have guessed, a couple of Chearsley villagers will be on board, possibly waving hankies or a beer glass out of the window as they pass through Chearsley.

Chearsley Challengers
Sharon is such a busy lady. A family to look after as well as being a great Landlady of The Bell offering great pub food and good beer and always cheerfully and helpfully serving and cooking for her customers (and some of the local customers can be quite a handful!). Not content with all of that, she and some friends from the Bell are taking part in a 50 kilometre Cotswold Way Challenge raising money for Parkinsons UK. This is on Saturday June 30, starting at 9am from Wotton –Under-Edge walking 50k to Cheltenham probably ending about midnight. You can guarantee she will be back behind the bar and in the kitchen on Sunday. How does she do it? A wonderful lady.
She is walking with Nicky, Terry, Furry (or Christopher as mentioned in a plug for the walk by Steve Fox on Red Kite Radio on Saturday afternoon),and Brian (Sharon’s Dad). All are to be congratulated for taking part in this Challenge. Good luck to them. Donations in aid of Parkinsons UK would be much appreciated and you can do this by going to www.justgiving.com/fundraising/sharon-woodford

Bus Survey
Bucks County Council are seeking responses to their survey on council-supported rural buses. It is a fairly simple survey as to how often and when and what time of day you travel on the bus and for what reason. The survey can be found on their website www.buckscc.gov.uk/bussurvey. There are also paper versions available. The bus through our village to Aylesbury and Thame is of vital importance to a few people in the village who are unable to drive and I think a strong response to this survey is vital to show that it is needed in our village. The service needs ongoing financial support from the County Council and it is not difficult to see that possibly reducing the service we have would be a way of saving money. I have some paper copies, so please let me know if you would like one. The closing date for the survey is July 20th. All comments will be reviewed this Summer and a consultation will be carried out later in 2018 on any proposed changes.

Scarecrows in Chearsley
For the first time and to celebrate the first Village Show in the new hall, there will be a Scarecrow Parade on Saturday September 1st in the village hall. You might have already followed the Scarecrow trail in Haddenham which ends on Sunday and have a few ideas of a scarecrow you and your family could make. This is a great idea to join in with the Show if growing plants or vegetables is not what you like to do. There are also opportunities to show off skills in baking, flower arranging, painting, craftwork, photography and many categories for children. Another wonderful village day, not to be missed, coming in September.

Plastic bags in food recycling caddies.
Did you know that Bucks County Council are now able to accept plastic bags for food waste as well as newspaper and compostable liners. Acceptable bags are supermarket plastic bags, bags bought on a roll, eg pedal bin liners, thin plastic fridge and freezer storage bags and bread and salad bags. The bags are all separated from the food when it is delivered to the anaerobic digestion plant and the food waste is then processed, creating renewable electricity and at the end of the process, the digested food waste gets spread to land as a nutrition-rich fertiliser.
