Appeal for Governors

Cuddington and Dinton C of E School is a huge credit and asset to the catchment area that it serves – which includes the villages of Chearsley, Nether Winchedon, Upton and Ford as well as Cuddington and Dinton themselves.

In addition to the clear role that staff and parents play, much of the success of the school is down to the part that the Board of Governors also plays. In the case of our school the governors have played a pivotal role, along with staff and parents, in bringing about the successful changes that have taken place over the last 10-15 years and before that as well.

Today we are very fortunate to have a highly dedicated, qualified and focused group of people who make up our Governing Body. We are an unusually large one (mainly as a result of the merger) and we benefit from the fact our full complement is 16 members; many schools of our size only have 12.
There is, rightly, a steady turnover of governors as a result of terms of office finishing, parents moving on and staff leaving. This is very healthy and quite normal but it does mean that we are frequently seeking appropriate nominations for new governors. And we are especially keen to have parishioners who do not necessarily already have a direct link with the school e.g. are not current parents or members of staff.

This is a hugely important and very rewarding role so please give serious thought about considering it. If you are interested in finding out more about the role of a governor please contact the Headteacher, Mrs Kim Price, on 01844 291206 or via email – head@cds.school or the Chair of Governors, Mr Giles Ecott via gecott@yahoo.co.uk

Chearsley has lost a very public spirited member of its community on the death of Michael Edmonds on Thursday November 8th in hospital. He had been a Parish Councillor and Chairman for many years, an AVDC District Councillor and served on countless committees. Alan Mitchener has researched into two family members who served on the Western Front in WWI and will briefly outline the course of the war, his research and aspects of life at the Front and answering any questions. Fenella appeared in an hour long documentary in 2010 “Finding the Lost Battalions” on Channel 4 which will be broadcast during the evening followed by a Question and Answer session with Fenella to share some of her unique experiences. Entrance is free and refreshments will be served. A collection for “The Not Forgotten Association” will be made.

Community First Responder for Chearsley
First Responders are local volunteers trained by South Central Ambulance Service to attend patients experiencing a life threatening medical emergency. They are able to respond to a local emergency within minutes to provide basic life support care until the arrival of the ambulance. Equipment and expenses are met by fundraising activities and charitable donations. I understand that there is currently no First Responder living in Chearsley, unlike other nearby villages. If anyone would like to find out more about what is involved to play a vital part in saving someone’s life please phone 01962 898090.
If you haven’t already attended one of the free CPR and Defibrillator training sessions in the Village Hall, I would suggest you book to go on the next one. You will learn how to respond effectively if someone stops breathing to provide that vital lifesaving help before the ambulance arrives, and how to operate the defibrillator.

Christingle Service at Chearsley Church
A delightful candlelit service for everyone, when every child receives a lighted Christingle will be held on Sunday December 2 at 3pm. A collection is made in aid of The Children’s Society.

The Hiding Place is the story of a devoted Christian family who set out on an incredible rescue mission of the Jews during WWII. The production takes place on Monday December 3 at 7.30pm in Cuddington Church by The Oddment Theatre Co. Tickets can be bought online at www.oddments-theatre.co.uk for £10 or from St Mary’s Centre, Haddenham. The season has now ended with the Club’s 1st XI relegated to Division 6 of the Cherwell League and the 2nd XI finishing in the lower half of Division 10. Despite having a thriving Junior Section and maintaining an excellent playing surface during the dry Summer, the Club have problems with having only a limited pool of players able to play regularly. They hope for more players to join and for younger players to progress through the ranks from the Juniors Section. Many village volunteers continue to support and run the Juniors Section which had over 90 registered this season and goes from strength to strength.
The Aunt Sally Allstars team finished mid-table in Division 3 of the Bicester & District Aunt Sally league. There will be ongoing works at the Club during the closed season, including the building of much needed storage space adjacent to the bar in the pavilion. They are looking forward to their annual Dinner and Dance on November 24th and to next year’s 8th Classic & Vintage Fun Day on either Sunday September 8 or 15 2019.
