Chearsley Show  Saturday September 7  including The Scarecrow Parade  A couple of weeks now until the Show takes place in the Village Hall. Time now to be thinking what flowers or vegetables in your garden or on your allotment will be ready for putting in to the Show.  I am hoping I will have some roses blooming again by then and some sweet peas even if the stems are now quite short but might yet become prize winners.  Runner beans and French beans have slowed up a lot, but hopefully they will produce enough to put in an entry. The courgettes just never give up, so I am hopeful to be able to find 4 of similar size to enter.  The domestic categories are not for me, but I know there are many enthusiastic bakers in the village, who will be entering to make a good display of sponges, scones, pies  and bread and not forgetting the popular Show Stopper cake.  There are other opportunities to join in our low-key, friendly, fun show in the art and craft – holiday photograph or handcrafted item and many entries for children including a Junior Show Stopper Cake, new this year. Don’t forget about making a scarecrow which can be of any character, made of what you like – get the whole family to contribute and use their imagination.  Bring your Scarecrow to the Hall on Saturday morning.  We are hoping for more than the 1 we had last year. There is a prize for the most creative.   Entry forms for the Show must be returned by Wednesday September 4 to Joy Payne at 1 Bernards Close. Please remember to enclose 20p fee per entry.  It cannot be left  until the day for forms to be received as there is a lot of behind the scenes paperwork and card writing to be done by a busy little team, led by Anne Lewis.  On the morning, entries can be received at the Hall from 8.30 until 10.15am ready for judging at 10.30am.  In the afternoon, the Hall is open to the public and entrants at 2.45pm with admission of £1, children free.  Teas will be on sale until 4.30pm.  At 3.30pm there will be the Presentation of Awards (a fine array of cups, plaques and bowls)  by Rev Richard Phillips and cash prizes for children aged 5 to 14 followed by the Raffle.
Chearsley Village Classic & Vintage Fun Day  Arrangements are well in hand for  the 8th year of this great village day which takes place on Sunday September 15  from 11am to 5pm at Chearsley Cricket Ground.
