Village Celebration Day – change of date
The date for this planned Village Celebration Day on The Green will not now take place on Saturday June 23. It has been decided to for it to be held on Saturday September 8, the day before the Classic and Vintage Fun Day in the grounds of the cricket club, making it a full-on Chearsley Weekend. More information will be available nearer the time.
Grand Opening of the New Village Hall on May 12 2018
Antonia Stratford, Chair of the Village Hall Committee reports :
The village of Chearsley welcomed Councillor Sue Renshell, Chair of AVDC , who opened their new, state of the art community building.
The project has cost nearly £600,000 and received a large grant from AVDC’s New Homes Bonus Fund in addition to grants from 7 other bursaries and foundations. Taking over 4 years to come to fruition, Chearsley Village Hall is now an attractive, flexible space for the entire community that can accommodate 2 activities concurrently, is suitable for large event hire and uses sustainable energy sources to heat and light the building.
Providing a new public space for the community has been hugely challenging but it is fantastic after so many years of planning and fundraising to see villagers start using the space straightaway for a variety of activities that have never taken place before. We are very grateful to all our funders and are confident that this building will meet our key objectives of bringing all sections of the community together and providing support and new activities particular for our senior residents.
Sue Renshell commented “village halls are a vital part of community life and help towards encouraging volunteering, providing a hub for residents and preventing rural isolation. AVDC is proud to support this project and would like to congratulate all those who have been involved”
Funding was secured from Rectory Homes, The Heybrook Family, The New Homes Bonus Fund, The Rothschild Foundation, Bernard Sunley Foundation, Aylesbury Vale Community Chest, Luton and Bedfordshire Community Foundation and Garfield Weston Foundation."

Since the opening, sound proofing baffles have been installed.
The Giving Tree
Hopefully, everyone took the opportunity to have a look at The Giving Tree installed in the hall’s entrance which cleverly includes the names of all villagers who have made donations for the building of the new hall . There is still plenty of room for more names and if you have not yet donated and would like to and have your name printed on a leaf or branch, please go to the village hall website. Any donations to the hall fund will be gratefully received and help towards adding to the hall’s facilities, possible for a removable stage, shutters for the windows, more outside play equipment etc.
Freight Strategy
Chearsley Parish Council thanks 150 villagers who signed the recent ePetition on the Bucks CC Freight Strategy, or who wrote directly to Bucks CC with their views. The Council has now received an encouraging response from Bucks C.C. along with an invitation to attend a Workshop to consider the issues in more detail, showing a positive indication to include Chearsley and Cuddington as hotspots in the strategy – a development that can only help efforts to control this problem.
Paul Irvin, Deputy Cabinet Member for Transportation writes to John Lewis of Chearsley Parish Council :
“I am extremely grateful to you and other local residents from Chearsley and Cuddington for such active engagement in the Freight Strategy consultation. This feedback is helpful in ensuring the existing challenges you are facing are reflected in the document and guide the Strategy’s implementation.
We’ve been clear that the Freight Strategy is an evolving strategy and that we’ll continue to work with those communities who fed into the process to investigate areas that are problematic in the future, so we can apply the right solutions. Our research and the feedback from our consultation give us a snapshot today, but circumstances will change in the future as growth happens and road uses alter, which is why we have developed a strategy that will adapt over the coming 20 years.
To acknowledge the activity (e.g. traffic surveys) carried out in Chearsley and Cuddington that identify local freight issues, we have amended the hotspot areas in the Strategy to ensure we give both areas an appropriate level of exposure. In addition, we plan to invite representatives from both areas to a meeting to discuss the existing challenges you face, talk through the role of the proposed Freight Officer and the types of solutions you might like to see included in the emerging Freight Action Plan.
We value the role played by communities to highlight the issues caused by freight. I hope the response above demonstrates that we take the concerns raised seriously and endeavour to work with you to understand the issues and develop appropriate solutions.”
