Ann Veness Memorial Cricket Match
Past and present members of Chearsley Cricket Club met on Sunday August 24 to contest the second Ann Veness Memorial Game. Ann died almost 2 years ago and had been a very important part in the development and running of the Club for many years. The match was a close fought exciting game, only being decided in the final minutes. Adam Lazaruk’s side, captained by Ed Holland won by 4 runs. They scored 185 runs in 35 overs, beating James Veness’s team captained by Matt Ricketts who scored 181. A great game of cricket. Thanks to Larry Warr for preparing a good wicket, the 2 umpires, Bob Walter and Rowly Willis, and tea lady Ellie Gadsby. Thanks also to 5 old players who hopefully enjoyed their day. Around £225 was raised from the day which will go to Florence Nightingale Hospice.

Chearsley Author – Tim Bradley who has lived in Chilton Road, Chearsley with his wife and son for several years has just had his first novel for children/teen/adults published called Arnie Jenks and The House of Strangers. This an action-packed exciting adventure which takes Arnie, a 12 year old boy on a whistle stop tour through time. Arnie has to spend the night at crumbling ancient Shabbington Hall on account of a sudden heavy snowfall instead of being taken home by his aunt after a school trip. As Arnie wanders the house in search of hidden secrets he is suddenly transported back in time, to the Victorian era, the First World War, the 1600s and the hot summer of 1976, meeting various characters associated with the house, each of whom has a tale to tell from when they lived in the house. The book was published on August 28 and is available from the Book House, Thame, Amazon and other outlets in paperback price £6.99 or Ebook £3.49. Tim has been a Producer in TV drama for the BBC and as a freelance producer responsible for programmes such as Teachers for Channel 4, Primeval for ITV and Silent Witness for BBC.
