Olympic Torch Relay – Monday July 9
The London 2012 Olympic Torch will reach Aylesbury Vale on this day. An historic day for the Vale when it is expected a large number of spectators will come and experience this once in a lifetime chance to see the Olympic flame.
What happens on the day – a convoy of vehicles will drive past first signalling that the runners carrying the Torch will follow in about 10 to 15 minutes. The roads where the Torch is being carried will be closed to traffic about 20 minutes before the convoy arrives and will remain closed until the Torchbearers have passed. The torch is in torchbearer mode in Buckingham, Winslow, Whitchurch, Aylesbury, Stoke Mandeville and Waddesdon. Between these communities, the Torch will travel in a vehicle. It is likely to remain busy in the area for a while after the Torch has passed.
Timings are 11.15 in Aylesbury; 11.54 in Stoke Mandeville and 14.17 in Waddesdon. If you are planning on going to Waddesdon where there will be a runner with the torch along the High Street as far as Queen Street, there will be temporary parking on the Waddesdon estate with access through Silk Street. There are designated viewing areas along the High Street for children and for disabled people and their carers. There will also be public and disabled toilets.
In Aylesbury Town Centre, some specific entertainment has been arranged to help welcome the torch. Street entertainers will begin to line to route from Buckingham Road to Walton Street at about 10.00 am and Aylesbury Music Centre Brass Band will be performing in the Market square. There will be volunteers handing out flags and blowers along the route. Again, there will be temporary public toilets available and designated areas especially for children and areas for disabled people to view the torch. It is advisable to arrive in good time, possibly up to 2 hours before the Torch arrives.

Quiz in aid of Chearsley Village Hall
The committee decided to cancel this event due to insufficient numbers. Apologies to everyone who was hoping to come. It may be decided to hold one later in the year, when it is not such a busy time.
